homescabinsMulti-Purpose Recreation Center – Fannin County – A Real Community Asset
A great addition for Fannin County residents or North Georgia Mountain visitors resulted in 2010 when the Fannin County Multi -Purpose Recreation Center was constructed. This magnificent facility is surrounded by 107 acres which include a large pond, beautiful green grass, pavilions, a small play structure area, and multiple ball fields.
Within this 43,000 square foot multi- purpose center, you will find an elevated walking track that many people of all ages enjoy on a frequent basis. There are also four regulation high school sized basketball courts. In addition to basketball, these courts are used for various activities including, volleyball, pickle ball, zumba and yoga classes as well as fly casting and fly tying classes. The recreation center has also become home to the Summer Day Camp that is offered in Fannin County.
The Recreation Center and the recreation department was one of the many assets in Blue Ridge that attracted my family to this area. Bernie Hodskins has been the director of this very active recreation department that successfully manages various sports programs for this county ,including soccer, football, basketball, baseball and softball. Most of these sports, with the exception of baseball, which is played at Blue Ridge City Park, are played at this recreation area located at 607 Tom Boyd Road. In addition to the Fannin County Park and Recreation Center, Bernie operates Tammen Park (a huge trout fishing location) as well as Horseshoe Bend Park, located in McCaysville. We will be highlighting each of these locations soon on our website.
My family has thoroughly enjoyed this FREE facility in so many ways. My 7 year old son gets to play basketball often with friends and he will also be playing there on the league when the season starts! My daughter and I have a blast competing with each other in ping pong where you will find two tables located upstairs. I walk many mornings on the inside track and my dad is looking forward to taking my kids fishing in the pond this week which is located down the road from the facility.
Whether you are a resident or visiting the North Georgia Mountains, I believe you will truly benefit from all this facility has to offer!
