A Quality Dining Experience – Harvest on Main – Downtown Blue Ridge.
Harvest on Main is definitely a dining experience you need to consider when visiting the beautiful area of downtown Blue Ridge. It is hard to believe this mountain retreat restaurant has only been opened since January of 2010. When Harvest opened for business, it truly added a unique style of its’ own to the historic downtown area and added another excellent choice for tourists as well as locals to enjoy.
The food served at Harvest could be considered a Mediterranean type of flavor mixed with a southern twang. Professionally known Chef, Danny Melman, brings his own style to the Harvest table which includes culinary influences from his many years of travel all over the world including England, France and Italy. The most important aspect to Danny and this restaurant is to serve the best quality ingredients by using food grown from local farmers and other businesses in the community. They heavily support this area by using fresh foods from so many local businesses including Mercier Orchards, Brasstown Beef, Logan Turnpike Mill and The Cooks Farm. There are many more they support and their goal is to grow the list each year.
The Cooks Farm is a one acre farm setting not even a mile from the restaurant. This farm was created in 2011 to provide specialty type of produce. They also have their own chickens for eggs and bees for honey production. Another great asset this farm has brought to the community is that they provide adult cooking classes, farm to table dinner classes as well as kids cooking classes in the summer. My friend’s kids were able to attend and she said they had an absolutely fabulous experience that they want again next summer.
My dining experience at Harvest has been fabulous. The roaring fireplace in the winter is something that I look forward to. I believe you get excellent quality food, southern hospitality and once again, enjoy the fact that I am supporting my local community by eating at an establishment that firmly believes in the same thing.
