Light up the Basin – A Fine Small Town Tradition!

The Thanksgiving to Christmas season is always such a festive time where there are so many things to enjoy.  “Light Up the Basin” is one of those that is a small town tradition but yields large amounts of fun.  Young and old are invited to help throw the switch to ‘Light Up the Basin’ for the holiday season on Friday, November 23rd at 6pm.

The local communities coordinate their Christmas Lighting Ceremonies in a single evening of celebration. The evening begins at 6 pm, at the McCaysville Branch of United Community Bank, where the Mayor helps light McCaysville’s official Christmas Tree. A procession of Christmas carolers then parades by candlelight to the Copperhill Branch of the BB&T Bank, for another tree lighting ceremony. Participants then make their way to Miners Park, to help the Mayor light Copperhill’s Yule tree. The crowd then moves back down Grande Avenue for the lighting of the wreath of the Old Steel Bridge. Following the tree lightings, celebrants can visit Santa at Christmas Is Here!

I will write about various holiday happenings throughout these next few weeks.  The one I wrote about most recently was Light Up Blue Ridge.   Whether you are a resident or visiting the beautiful North Georgia Mountains, I hope you will take time to enjoy some of these awesome events!
